Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho has revealed the reasons why he had to let Frank Lampard leave the club after speaking to BBC Sport.
Lampard left the Blues and joined MLS side, New York City on a two-year-deal but was soon loaned out to Chelsea rivals, Manchester City until December. With his loan nearly over, City are looking into the possibility of sealing a longer loan move for the former England skipper. Lampard has been sensational for the Citizens this season and is helping them to a title challenge once more.
But, is Jose Mourinho upset at the fact he has lost Lampard? The answer – no.
“The project is to prepare for the next 10 years, not the next year – we made the right decision. You can argue ‘You have John Terry and Didier Drogba’. Different. Drogba is a striker that is coming to help and support the team,” Mourinho said.
“John Terry is the best central defender in English football and it doesn’t matter how old he is.
“The nucleus of the team has to be developed and to have a big player like Frank we would stop the development of the other guys.”
So it seems “the Special One” is happy to see Lampard making his mark at City, but could it scupper his sides chances of winning the Premier League?
